ABOUT THE MISS-LOU AREA
There is almost an unlimited number of events and attractions
in this modestly populated area. Vidalia is the parish seat of
Concordia Parish, Louisiana, directly across the Mississippi
River from Natchez, Mississippi, oldest city on the Mississippi
River and county seat of Adams county. Vidalia is the home of
the Jim Bowie Festival. Nearby Ferriday is the home to the Delta
Music Museum. Concordia Parish is home to Frogmore Cotton Plantation
and Gins, a unique hydroelectric power plant, and almost unlimited
outdoor recreational activities. Catahoula Parish is home to
some of the earliest indigenous peoples in this part of the United
States. Natchez is a small historic city that boasts annual literary,
music and balloon festivals, and the annual spring
and fall Pilgrimages. The area is filled with historic churches
and hundreds of private and public architectural treasures, historic
cemeteries, Forks of the Road Slave Market Site, Museum of African
American History & Culture, Grand Village of the Natchez
Indians, William Johnson House, and the infamous Phatwater Kayak
Race. In all of these, the Mississippi River is the unifying
force.
